2012 Fall Season, week 6

November 3, 2012

This week's harvest:
Chinese (Napa) Cabbage
Daikon Radish
Kale
Lettuce
"Hakurei" Salad Turnips
Garlic
Sweet Potatoes
Butternut Squash

This week's farm news:

On Thursday morning we awoke to our first freeze of the season - 26 degrees on our front porch. We knew the colder weather was on its way so earlier this week we dragged out the row covers to give some of our garden crops a little extra protection - especially the lovely little heads of cauliflower that are forming so nicely. We also planted our elephant garlic this week and got it mulched and ready for the coming winter season. We are hopeful that there will finally be enough to give y'all some next year! We added a young pear tree to our growing orchard this week as well. And with the little hint of the colder weather that is sure to come, Eric fired up the log-splitter and got a nice stock of wood split for our winter warmth.
